Casas
Viejas , previous name of the current municipality of
Benalup-Casas Viejas (Cádiz), where he took place
in January of 1933, during the II Spanish Republic,
a movement rural insurreccional promoted by the anarchists.
January 8 1933 the Iberian Anarchist Federation (FAI)
he/she made a call to the general insurrection. The
most serious events happened the 11 and 12 in the same
month in the village gaditana of Old Houses, where a
group of peasants that had proclaimed the liberal and
attacked communism the Civil Watch's posse was murdered
by members of the Watch of Assault (police body created
by the republican government). This force arrived in
the civil guards' help besieged soon after of the beginning
of the attack on the part of the insurrectionists. The
most terrible scenes happened in the nicknamed peasant's
home Seisdedos: the fire of the shack in which had taken
refuge January 11 with six relatives and two neighbors
put an end to the life of all them the following day.
Few hours later, other fourteen residents of the village
were shot by the guards.
This event was a hard blow for the government presided
over by Manuel Azaña, because it disappointed
to the left, it caused the attacks of the right and
it summoned the widespread petition of responsibilities
for the shootings. Nevertheless, neither the parliamentary
commission created immediately to the effect, neither
the open judicial process to clarify the events, they
established that the government of Azaña had
given order some promoting the made repression. The
captain Red Manuel that sent the troops police actuantes
during the event, was condemned later to 21 years of
prison three years. Azaña had resigned as boss
of the cabinet in September of 1933, wrapped somehow
in the political confrontations opened up before at
Homes Old eight months.
